today was the day--your first day of (pre)school. such a big day meant banana chocolate chip pancakes (courtesy of daddy)! and of course, we can't have breakfast without your favorite book of the moment--Curious George and the Firefighters!
you were so excited for school and Ms Miller's class that you made up a little song while mommy snapped photos of the big day.
we had no idea that today would be your first and last day of school at brandon academy.
mommy had a meeting with the principal at 9:30am (your snack time). basically, they said the staff wasn't trained to administer an epi pen (so they couldn't/wouldn't do so in the event you ate a peanut product), that your epi pen must be kept locked in the teacher's lounge to "protect the other students", that you would need to administer the epi pen yourself and that they could not/would not ask the other 12 students in your classroom to not bring peanut products to class for intentional sharing. obviously it's a no brainer. if they won't administer the drug that would save your life, you will not be attending school there.
daddy said it was a good thing he wasn't there because he would not have been as nice as i was. mommy's not gonna lie--she cried--in front of the principal and all. it hurt mommy that they weren't willing to attempt to include you and make the school safe for you. it was rejection and it's sad, but at least you aren't old enough to understand.
for now, mommy is happy to have "bonus" family time and time with you, sweet boy. maybe we will find a school that is a better fit for you to start in January (mommy spoke to three different schools today that would be willing to administer the epi pen!). if not, we will definitely for VPK. we love you and YOU are the most important thing. YOU are irreplaceable and you will succeed wherever you go! you likely hold the record for the shortest admitted student at brandon academy--8am-11:00am! ;)
