carter brian,

your 2nd birthday will be here before we know it...and so will potty training...and finding out whether you'll be a big brother to a baby brother or sister! life moves SO QUICKLY! you've grown SO FAST! and we love you more and more each day, as we discover who YOU are--what parts are daddylike and what parts are mommylike and what parts are uniquely you. you are so special, carter!
at 22 months, you...
...eat a variety of foods, but are still on the smaller side. i weighed and measured you the other day to see what size shirt i should order for your birthday and you were 24lbs 10 oz and 33 in.
...drink less milk all the time, which i guess is a good thing!
...can't feed yourself with a spoon yet. mommy has been doing it for you WAY too long! we need to really work on this before baby z 2 joins us! i'm thinking we'll take you out to Campbells for ice cream but make you feed yourself the ice cream. you just aren't motivated enough to feed yourself oatmeal or mashed potatoes.
...are entertained for extended periods of time with anything that has a steering wheel!

...LOVE helping mommy change the laundry (you press the button to start the dryer), fold clothes (you hand me a piece of clothing to fold and tell me whose it is) and empty the dishwasher! it might take a little longer this way, but i like it! :)
...peed on the potty pretty consistently for a week or so, just before bath each night and then a few other times during the day. BUT that has faded. :( hopefully you'll be interested in it soon. if not, we've already decided to take the first weekend in march and devote it to potty training since you've showed signs of readiness on and off for a while. hopefully you'll be on again then!
...LOVE your two sizes too big, second hand cowboy boots!

...love watching "baby e-os" (=baby videos or videos of yourself). you were allowed to watch them at mealtimes until they inhibited your eating! now you get to watch three videos after you finish a meal.
...are still really into Elmo. you ask to watch "elmo tv" halfway through our walks and REALLY watch it! you are scared of mr. noodle in one of the videos though, so you turn off the tv for the part you don't like (i think it's when he's in the mirror).
...weren't napping super fabulously last week, but we think we have it under control now. you were sleeping in too much (sleeping until 8:15!) but mommy's been waking you up at 7:30/7:45 the last few days and you've been napping well again.
...LOVE riding on the carousel at the mall and the zoo!

...insist on "helping" us unload the grocery bags and do your best at labeling each item you pull out of the bag!
...want us to open the "door" of the stroller so you can get in and out all by yourself.
...fed a giraffe at the zoo

...LOVE smoothies!
...are drinking from a (non sippy) cup pretty well AND learned to drink out of mommy's water bottle, which she's kind of bummed about. she liked having something that was just hers, but it was nice while it lasted! ;)

...are getting your two year molars in!
AND
...want to sit in mommy's lap a lot now when we read stories before bed. maybe it's because you can sense your little brother or sister in mommy's belly. i don't know, but i LOVE it!
