yesterday was a day of firsts.
first time eating peanut butter.
first ambulance ride.
first time in the ER.
first time vomiting.
first IV.
we are home now. thankfully, Carter is fine. he's on a steroid for a few days and an antihistamine and we are in possession of an epi-pen in the event this happens again. we've been warned that subsequent exposures are oftentimes much more intense. we go to dr. thole tomorrow to learn what's in store for us and what we need to do as parents to make sure he is safe. i imagine there will be allergy tests in our future to see if he has any other allergies. we are going to be a peanut-free house to keep things simple and safe.

what we remember:
...how quickly everything happened. 5 min after lunch i asked daddy if you looked okay. he didn't notice anything. 5 min after that daddy was calling 911.
...hearing the sirens at the back gate, knowing they were coming for you
...how LONG it took for EMS to get here--thank God your airway didn't close
...how you hated the pulse monitor on your toe and REALLY hated the IV!
...how swollen your face got and then how red your turned while in the ER
...daddy researching all the medicines you were on and then not being able to sleep because he was so worried about you
