this is everyone who attended your big day…
great-great grandma stutz…great-grandma heisserer…great-grandma mikita…grandma and grandpa heisserer….grandma and grandpa zoodsma…great aunt jill…aunt cyndi and cousin harrison (and his girlfriend nicole)…aunt cheri, uncle todd, cousin drew and cousin erica…aunt chenelle and uncle karl…aunt nikki…aunt becky…bill and linda…and mommy and daddy, of course! mommy had hopes of getting your picture with EACH and EVERY person who came to your party. it was a nice idea, but it didn’t happen. but mommy did manage to get a picture of the three of us (thanks to aunt chenelle!).
lunch would not have been possible without your grandmas and grandpa! grandpa heisserer made the baby back ribs and the chicken, grandma heisserer made baked beans and grandma zoodsma made two kinds of macaroni salad! all of the food was delicious! you didn't partake in the delicious meal--you had grapes, cheese and pouch food (butternut squash macaroni and cheese).
everyone was happy to see you on your special day! unfortunately, great-great grandma stutz fell and hurt her shoulder and had to leave the party early, but we showed her the video at easter of you eating your birthday cake and opening your gifts. (on a sidenote, you were SO SWEET when we went to visit great-great grandma stutz; you gave her a big kiss all on your own! it made mommy and daddy proud to have such a sweet boy for a son!)
{here you are with your great-great grandma stutz on easter}
i think your favorite part of your first birthday party was playing with your new gifts! if we would’ve known that, we would’ve had you open your presents FIRST instead of last! mommy might remember that tidbit for your future siblings. ;)
a BIG “thank you!” to everyone for their generosity! carter got so many GREAT gifts for his first birthday! (the official thank you cards should go out sometime soon!)
great-great grandma stutz: silver dollar and $2 bill!
great-grandma heisserer: easter outfit, “baby goose” brand socks for our always-growing “goose”, a stuffed squeaky duck, and a sippy cup
great-grandma mikita: recovered mommy’s rocking chair she got for her first birthday
grandma and grandpa heisserer: ride-on toy, your first basketball goal, a singing cow, a snail shape sorter
grandma and grandpa zoodsma: a tunnel, books and a onesie that says “I’m the boss!”
great aunt jill: stuffed puppy hugging a blanket
aunt cyndi, uncle greg and harrison: two carter’s outfits, farm animal wheel toys, a talking book about counting farm animals
aunt cheri, uncle todd and drew and erica: a ball pit
aunt chenelle and uncle karl: a ride on toy
aunt nikki: 6 different puzzles with a puzzle rack, a “here comes trouble” outfit
aunt becky: 2 super cute outfits from the children’s place
bill and linda: your first Disney onesie—one day you’ll love that place!
mommy and daddy: we knew you would’ve asked for a puppy (a “d-ah” to be precise) if you could form sentences— (which can be confusing because “d-uh”, which sounds a lot like “d-ah” means duck, NOT dog), but daddy said no. so mommy suggested a “fur real” dog that walks, barks, and whines but doesn’t require food, water and attention! you loved it at first, but have gotten over it since then. we also got you a book that spells out your name in the story, some sensory stacking blocks and the birthday party!
------------------
you really liked seeing everyone you love (especially your grandpas!), but it was a little overwhelming for you at times, especially at cake-smashing time! there were lots of people with cameras in our kitchen! mommy and daddy felt like it was our wedding all over again! It was crazy! but all those cameras helped get these shots…
mommy made you a funfetti smash cake. she wasn’t going to put the sprinkles on the outside, but daddy said he thought it was important. so mommy picked out every pink sprinkle (to not offend your grandpas, since neither of them think pink is an acceptable color for a boy)! the sprinkles intrigued you the most, but didn’t make you dive into it like some kids seem to do or at least ive heard.
mommy also made sock it to me cake pops—since it’s not a birthday party in the heisserer family without sock it to me cake—and a chocolate cake with vanilla icing. i think the sock it to me cake pops were the favorite, although they weren’t as pretty as your “1” cake!
at one point, you got a little frustrated after trying to go into the kitchen and play in your cabinet. you seemed pretty irritated that you couldn’t get to it with all the guests standing around! you were probably the fussiest you’ve ever been on your birthday, but mommy barely noticed. and if mommy barely noticed, then nobody else did. ;)
we love you so much, carter brian! we know you won't remember your first birthday, but we hope you realize how much you are loved and how special we think you are.
