mother's day weekend 2011

first of all, a "thank you" is in order, so thank you to daddy (and carter) for hijacking the blog and for making my 2nd mother's day a special one! here's the recap...

since mother's day was on a sunday and i typically sleep in on saturdays, kenny and i switched sleep in days so i could sleep in on mother's day. i was instructed to not come out of the bedroom--they would come into the bedroom when they were ready for me.

my boys came in the bedroom a little later than they'd planned, but it was worth the wait! C was dressed in a "mommy's superbaby" onesie and K was carrying breakfast (in the arm not holding C). K made us banana chocolate chip muffins and egg and cheese muffin cups AND made me my coffee! C had already eaten so he hung out in the play yard while K and i ate in bed.

my three boxes of gifts were two pairs of CZ (cubic zirconia) earrings from CZ and a box with a note that said, "your gift is on the blog". K knows how important words are to me, so it was really nice that he came up with (and learned how to use blogger) so he could write a post without me knowing. (he only had a short window of time to make the post, since he knows i check the blog periodically, even if i'm not posting anything).

after breakfast and a little playtime with C, C went down for his morning nap and K and i went back to bed. K was tired from all the work he did for mother's day morning and from trying to take a photo with C holding a sign. this was what he got. it's TOTALLY a two person job to get a good, cute photo of the goose!
we decided to have a picnic lunch at lettuce lake to continue my special day. we'd talked about going to the zoo, but we decided we wanted to nap and to NOT fight the crowd, as mothers were free at the zoo!
we stopped at lenny's for subs (which we won't do again anytime soon) and then had a typical day at the park. we ate lunch at the usual spot, walked the boardwalk, went to the playground area, C sat in the swing for all of 20 seconds before wanting out, and then sat in the shade and watched the people enjoying the beautiful day before heading home.

after C's afternoon nap, we headed to my grandma's house to have dinner with my mom (and dad) and grandma. everyone was happy to see C! dinner was delicious and uncle don was there too! it was a great way to end a fun, special day!

13 months

carter brian,

here we are...one month passed one! you continue to grow and change daily, and make us smile like nothing else in the world.

you...

...wear mostly 9 month size clothes still, but fit nicely into 12 month size t-shirts.

...rarely wear socks or shoes, mostly because everything mommy's read says that the best thing for you to wear while learning to walk is nothing, and also because it irritates your eczema.

...sleep like a champ at night and nap twice a day. the afternoon nap has been weird for the last few weeks, but i think you're getting back into the routine of things.

...say "mama", "dada", "dog", "duck" and "papa" all pretty consistently!

...point at.every.thing.!! especially at squirrels on our walks. :) we asked at your 12 month well visit if it was cause for concern that you weren't actually pointing with a point, just pointing with an open hand. dr thole looked as us like we were crazy, and two weeks later, you're a pro!

...pooped in the tub! (mommy didn't get any pictures of that. daddy was a little freaked when it happened.) but the second time (shown here), daddy caught it in time and all the poop went in the potty! :)

...are getting more and more confident on your feet, but still not standing alone for that long of time periods. you do best when you are distracted and don't realize you are standing. :) you are practicing a lot in your crib, though--cruising around and doing downward dog. but you're still quite a ways off from walking, i think.

...sign "all done" like a pro! mommy's toying with the idea of introducing more signs, but we'll see. :)

...attempt to say more--vocalizing more sounds and understand MANY words. your new trick this month is sticking your tongue out whenever we say "tongue". :) even if we read it in a book and you are sucking your thumb, you stick out your tongue!

...eat TABLE FOOD!! you've had pepsi pot roast, baked ziti, crazy turkey, beer can chicken AND yellow rice and chicken in the last few weeks! garlic bread is still one of your faves, as is grilled cheese! you are definitely cut from the heisserer and zoodsma cloth!

...get FRUSTRATED and FUSS FUSS FUSS! it is funny at times, but mostly irritating. we are working hard on requiring you to ask for help/use your words (basically, just some calm babbles) before we do whatever it is you want us to do/fix for you.

...still LOVE books! and are really into musical toys and your snail shape sorter and shape toolbox. you also LOVE getting the cordless phone from daddy's office. you carry it around the house pressing buttons. it's a good thing it isn't connected to anything!

...L.O.V.E. the water! beach...bathtime...the pool. we MUST get you a water table for the patio!

...............{at gma&gpa z's}....................(at fort desoto)...................{at aunt cheri's}...............

...know some body parts and can point to them on mommy or daddy.

...go back and forth between independent and clingy numerous times a day. i think you want to be held a lot of times just so you can see what we are doing (like if mommy's in the kitchen cutting vegetables for dinner, you want to be RIGHT THERE watching her cut vegetables for dinner!).

...have (at least) 9 teeth! which reminds me, i need to fish around back there and see if any other ones popped up, as you have been teething for sure, lately!

...help mommy dress and undress you.

...know how to use a brush, toothbrush and phone correctly, but daddy says sometimes you try to brush your teeth with your hairbrush instead of the toothbrush. ;)

...are in need of another haircut

...and...

...are moderately addicted to "goodnight gorilla". you see it and it's all you want and say "gah" "gah" "gah" over and over!

Hacked for Mother's Day

You work so hard on recording all of my memories on this blog. So on Mother’s Day, it seemed like a good gift to blog about YOU.

First, I must make up for my failed attempts last year. In my defense I was only 3 1/2 weeks old, and I’d never celebrated a Mother’s Day before. Sorry for sleeping pretty much all day long last year. It really wasn’t my fault; it was so warm and comfy at Aunt Cheri’s:

I wanted to give you a plaster handprint as a keepsake, but my hands just weren’t ready. Here is a pic showing roughly my hand from last year compared to the year:

As my handprint shows, I have grown a lot in the past year. Even though I don’t always cooperate in our picture sessions (okay, sometimes I cry), it is nice to have all these pics to remember the great times we’ve had together. Here are some of my favorite pics we’ve taken so far:

The older I get, the more I can see the great things I get from you. Here are some of the things I’ve noticed that we share:

Long eyelashes

A contagious smile

Sweet Kisses

It’s been such a great year with you. You give so much of your time and energy to help me be happy. You’re the best mom a boy could have and I am lucky to have you. I LOVE YOU,

carter's 1st haircut

mommy and daddy didn’t waste any time getting your haircut; you’ve needed a haircut since (at least) 8 months! we went the day after you turned one, since we all had enough excitement on the day you turned one with your birthday party and all!

you cried pretty much the whole time. the haircut lasted all of about ten minutes, but you did not like it at all!. at one point you grabbed onto mommy’s shirt and tried to climb out of the chair. it was the hardest you’ve cried to date, including the times when you’ve gotten shots at the doctor's office!

daddy took us for gelato after the traumatizing experience. the airplane haircut seats and the lion king on the tvs didn’t cheer you up, but daddy’s cookies and cream gelato sure did the trick!

you look like such a big boy now! i don’t think the barber did that great of a job on your haircut, but you still look super cute!
