Baby Birthday Ticker Ticker

{wordless wednesday: a day for the memory book}

guess who went "psssss" on the potty tonight after bath??

this cute kid right here!

and whenever mommy said, "i'm so proud of you" while we were getting ready for bed, he'd immediately chime in with "baby psssss"! :)

i'm pretty sure it was one of those--right place/right time things, but i'll take it as a victory nonetheless!! :)

20 months

carter brian,

wow! you've changed A LOT this past month! sadly, it's not ALL for the good!

you...

...require 18 month size pants these days and now wear size 6.5 for shoes!

...have developed quite the friendship with Elmo (and a handful of other stuffed animals).

...throw your cup and occasionally food/utensils during mealtimes.

...are transitioning pretty well between the fall and winter seasons. you say "manga man" (=snowman), "anta" (=santa) and "rismis" (=christmas). you try to say nutcracker too, but mommy can't even try to type out how you say it because it's that far off! :)

...understand directions but do not comply. AND DO SO WITH A SMIRK! mommy needs to freshen up on "Love and Logic" to get a handle on things.

...have done a good job trying the new meals mommy's been preparing for dinners with all the fresh greens from our first CSA box! you didn't love bok choy or cabbage, but you ate three bites of each as required!

...LOVE soup (especially roasted red pepper and corn soup)! too bad daddy isn't a soup guy. but we might very well turn him into one because making (and freezing) soups for another day is AWESOME! mommy can't believe it's taken her so long to realize it!

...prefer ice cold water over milk!

...visited santa at international mall. all the parents last year were right...you cried! :) but that's okay, it's part of it! maybe next year you'll be back to smiling at the man in the red suit.

...say "goo" (=goose) with the same face you say "nikki"! ;)

..."run" (more like springy walk) EVERYWHERE! i don't know where you get all of your energy, but mommy needs to come up with some ways to help you spend some of it. (christmas will be good for you--hopefully the tricycle from mommy and daddy will help out with this!)

...forced mommy to set a passcode on her iphone because you have learned how to unlock it and tap on things randomly, including call people mommy doesn't mean to call, surf safari (which is not good since mommy doesn't have unlimited data) and have been found in the itunes store seconds from purchasing something mommy doesn't want!

...go into daddy's office every chance you get to click the mouse and bang the keyboard connected to the mac mini!

...like sitting in your-size furniture, including but not limited to your picnic table and the rocking chair that was mommy's when she was little.

...request to "co" (=color) at your picnic table daily, but if mommy doesn't sit with you, it's pretty much guaranteed that she'll be plucking you off the bench and putting the picnic table outside because you've chosen to stand on the table!

...and...

...are loved VERY VERY MUCH but MANY people! :)

for a special someone...

aunt chenelle,

i was a fussy boy all day today (much like i was last year on your birthday), but it didn't stop mommy from trying to video a special message for you. i know you were hoping i'd say "i love you" for your birthday, but i'm not there yet. BUT i have learned how to release kisses when i blow them (i'm sure mommy got that on film in the 57 video takes she did!)

eventually i fussed enough and mommy gave up and went with a picture instead. i hope the pictures makes you smile today.

i love you (even though i can't say it yet),

carter

at 19 months

you...

...have a bit of a cold (we think it might be RSV) and your second year molars are coming in. BUT in spite of all that, you still have that twinkle in your eye we love so much, so it's okay with us.

...require 18 month footed sleepers and size 5 diapers at night.

...talk A LOT! some of your favorite words to say right now are: "uh-cul" (= uncle), "ohn cul" (=phone call), "Bill" and "mail".

...LOVE "mah nah" (=music)! you eat well at mealtime if your special CD is on (123 Favorite Kids Songs).

...will ask daddy "mor cah" (while signing more) whenever you see him sitting at his desk.

...still need A LOT of work with feeding yourself with utensils, but i'm confident it will come, ONE DAY!

...give closed mouth kisses

...have been known to wake up saying "yee haw"

...could listen to Pop Goes the Weasel on repeat and never tire of it.

...are SO CLOSE to running--you are SO FAST these days!

...HATE walking holding hands! you want to go where you want to go when you want to, but we're still working on this skill!

...are also working on following the direction "come here". if you don't comply by the time i get to three, i carry you until you have a quiet voice and then we try again. lately, you've been complying on one while we are out in public!

...will empty EVERY SINGLE CABINET in the kitchen if we let you! we bought you your own kitchen to cut down on the mess, but it hasn't worked out exactly like we'd hoped.

...play so well by yourself these days it makes mommy feel unneeded. now mommy has to ask YOU if you want to read books. i guess i shouldn't complain, i like reading a half a dozen books a day instead of 57! ;)

...are a pro at walking on your tiptoes and knees!

...could use a haircut every three weeks--just like your daddy!

...LOVE pizza--margarita, pear gorgonzola, vegetable, buffalo mozzarella and pesto...

...nap once a day for less than 2 hours and sleep from 8:30ish to 7:30ish each night.

...hum and sway to Scarborough Fair on your favorite CD

...and...

...have somehow discovered who Elmo is and really seem to like him! but he hasn't replaced your love for lawnmowers ("mah mah mah"), trucks, cars and airplanes!

halloween 2011

last halloween, we toyed with the idea of dressing you up as a goose (mommy's nickname for you early on), mommy as Mother Goose and daddy as Father Time(???). daddy vetoed that idea pretty quickly, so we went with giraffe (and safari people). your long, skinny physique (and mommy's groupon to gap), made giraffe (which you currently call "fah") the perfect costume for your first halloween.

THEN sometime after halloween, daddy came up with the BEST halloween costume idea EVER of you going as Goose from Top Gun, himself going as Maverick and mommy going as "the chick" (played by Kellie McGillis aka "Charlie"). mommy was ready to make it happen, but daddy wanted confirmed plans; he was not going to dress up just for trick or treating in our neighborhood!

even though your jacket wasn't even close to accurate with the movie, it was only $5.50 at Once Upon a Child which was a STEAL considering they retail for $50! we found something similar to your jacket for daddy and went from there. all in all, the costumes turned out great, but mommy and daddy both agreed that the mustache MADE your costume, followed by your t-shirt mommy found at Children's Place!

we were able to get LOTS of photos this halloween, mostly because mommy got the dates wrong for Aunt Cheri's halloween party, so we were all dressed up with no place to go Sunday since Aunt Cheri's party was on Monday (Halloween)! it was all good though, because we got two nights of photos AND nana and papa heisserer, mimi and uh-cul got to see you all dressed up! then we3 went out to cappy's for greek salad, cheese bread and a calzone. you LOVED the cheese bread and calzone, but why wouldn't you?? you're a Zoodsma!! :)

on halloween night (costume take 2), we went to Aunt Cheri's to eat dinner and to the nearby neighborhood to trick or treat (="tick-oh-tee"). you said it, but still didn't quite "get it". you walked up a few sidewalks and went to a few doors with a lot of coaxing, but that was it. mommy and daddy never really thought about how your peanut and almond allergy would effect your trick or treating, but we'll have to come up with something to do with the candy you can't have by next halloween. maybe mommy will make you candy/treats that you can have and you can buy/trade in candy your can't have for mommy's homemade, nut free treats??

without further ado, here are the favorites from halloween 2011, take one!
