2 weeks

carter brian,

you've been a part of our world for two weeks now and it's been quite the transition for mommy.

you're eating, on average, eight to ten times a day (usually every 2 1/2 to 3 hours, but sometimes every 4 hours during the night) for about 12 minutes and going through about 12 newborn size diapers a day! this keeps mommy (and daddy) VERY busy!

just in the last few days, we've decided to give the "Babywise" approach a try. luckily, you're already naturally doing a lot of the stuff that needs to be done. right now our focus is to get you to wake up at the same time everyday so our days will be more predictable and for mommy to figure out some more of the little details--like how long you should be in "wake time" during the day. mommy is very grateful that carly has volunteered her knowledge of the approach.
overall, you've been such a good baby; thanks for taking it easy on me. however, just in the last week or so, you've developed this "GET THE BOOB IN RIGHT, RIGHT NOW!!" scream that is painful to mommy's ears. thankfully for me (but not so much your daddy), you typically reserve this cry to the middle of the night feedings and seem to use it when mommy's sleep-nursing.
also, the sound you made that we thought was super-cute during the first few days of your life, the sound that gave you the nickname "piglet", has become less-cute and quite frankly, downright anxiety-inducing to mommy in recent days. mommy has somehow paired the piglet sound with the "GET THE BOOB IN RIGHT" squeal. how unfortunate, it really was adorable, in the beginning. :(

speaking of nicknames...you have a few other nicknames at the moment. besides "piglet", you're also known as, "houdini" for your remarkable ability to wiggle your way out of any and all swaddle attempts made by mommy or daddy. the straight jacket--er...i mean "swaddle me" has been a lifesaver during the night, since you've yet to figure out how to undo the velcro when your arms are strapped down by your side.
mommy's also taken to calling you "sweet boy" and is worried that you won't learn your name because "sweet boy" is what always comes out of her mouth.

you're a very lucky little boy. you're daddy is the greatest daddy ever! in case i forget to tell you later in life, your daddy actually changed your first poopy diaper ever! so many dads NEVER change diapers, especially the poopy ones, but your daddy did the first one ever! he really loves you, he's always asking mommy if i want him to take you from me and give me a break. :)

mommy loves seeing the two of you together and loves it when daddy gives you "airplane kisses". we'll definitely have to capture some of your playtimes together on video, before you get too big! here you two are doing one of your favorite pasttimes--chest-napping.
you really don't like being changed--not into different clothes and not into clean diapers. when it's time for a diaper change, you cross your little legs and try your darnedest to keep on the diaper you're wearing, and when mommy (or daddy) get it off, you cross your little legs again to block your man parts from the evil wet wipe! it's quite humorous when daddy is changing you or during the day, but during the night when mommy is changing you, it looses its funniness.

you also don't like it when mommy strokes your little head while you're nursing. you flail your little arms and legs (usually after letting out "the squeal") and make it known you do not want to be touched. you use your strong little legs to push your way up to the perfect eating position too, and you're doing a great job holding your head up for short periods of time!

you love naps in your swing. (but NOT being awakened from them, as shown)
you love mommy.

you love daddy.

you love your grandmas and grandpas

and anyone who lets you sleep on their chest.

you are, such a sweet, sweet boy.

{{here you are playing on your activity mat from aunt cheri. mommy's trying to capture the color of your eyes--they're a beautiful gray-blue color right now and i'm hoping they change to blue like your daddy's. unfortunately, there's only a 25% chance of that happening due to mommy's brown eyes.}}

{{and i can't forget the picture of your "rat tail". how can a two week old already need a haircut? actually, i guess you could've used a haircut after coming out of mommy--even the hair on the side of your head comes past the top of your ear!}}
_______________

i hear you making your little waking up noises on the monitor, so i'll go now.

p.s. i'm hoping to get some photos today of mommy and daddy's favorite things you do. stay tuned!
