first tears

yesterday was your two month appointment with the pediatrician. you got FOUR shots--two in each leg--and cried your first tears.

daddy did a good job of helping the nurse while she was giving you the shots and then calming you down. i don't know if i'll ever be able to do that! it hurts mommy's heart when you get so upset! i'm glad we don't have to go back for another 2 months and i'm sure you are too!

in other news...you're in the 90th percentile for height but only the 25th percentile for weight.

father's day weekend

since this was daddy's first father's day, you wanted to "do it big"! i don't know that we accomplished that, but daddy seemed to enjoy himself and that's all that matters!

first, on friday night, to celebrate what daddy dubbed "parents night," mommy and daddy went to their favorite restaurant, Six Tables. here we are all dressed up.
since grandma and grandpa h were out meeting your uncle don's girlfriend's parents for the first time, you stayed with aunt chenelle (and uncle karl). it didn't seem to bother you one little bit that we left you at home; in fact, i'm pretty sure you LOVED it!
after we got back from dinner, you let daddy open his first present...two new shirts for him and two new "daddy" shirts for you. daddy liked your shirts better than he liked his, but that was okay with me.

on saturday afternoon, we3 met daddy's side of the family in celebration for lunch and ice cream. you got to see grandma and grandpa z, aunt cheri, cousin drew and cousin erica. everyone had a great time! here we3 are at ice cream, you in your new "i 'heart' dad" shirt.after lunch, we went back home to rest for a bit; sadly, after a short nap, daddy had to cut the grass on father's day weekend. :(we headed up to brooksville on saturday evening to see mommy's side of the family. we had a nice surprise when we got there...your great aunt jill, your great uncle garry, your (great?) cousin tara and your (great?) cousin tyler were there to meet you for the first time!

the night was a little loud and very stimulating for you, but everyone had a good time and you were a great baby! grandma h and uncle don's girlfriend lucia (sidenote: mommy really needs to find out the correct spelling of her name) both did great at calming you back down after you got overstimulated! hopefully we'll be back up to visit your great great grandma, your great grandma and your great grandpa for the fourth of july! they love you so much and just CAN'T GET ENOUGH OF YOU! :)

when we got home, you wore your "daddy and me" sleeper to bed, in preparation for father's day morning! you look SUPER CUTE in footed pjs by the way--carter that is...daddy doesn't have any footed jammies. yet. ;)on sunday, mommy made daddy breakfast in bed (which really isn't that special of a treat since we have breakfast in bed every weekend), but usually daddy is the one serving mommy breakfast, so i guess it was a little bit of a treat for daddy since he didn't have to cook AND clean up breakfast like usual. anyway, after a breakfast of egg and cheese muffin cups and cinnamon rolls, daddy got to open his gifts.

you and mommy each made daddy a special card and you made daddy a stepping stone with your footprint on it. next father's day, we'll make another stepping stone with your other footprint on it and position them in the garden so it looks like you're walking and growing. here's the card and stepping stone you made daddy.

mommy is SO EXCITED about this tradition!

mommy got daddy some dress socks and a verbal coupon to new sunglasses--nothing super fabulous, but i think he liked his card and that makes handmaking a card worth it! :) here's the card mommy made for daddy. i'll only post the front, for memories' sake. i'm sure the front is sappy enough. believe me, the sappiness increases exponentially on the inside, so i'll spare you. ;)
mommy dressed you in your new "rad like dad" shirt for our trip to the mall for lunch and shopping. (yes, daddy was in that much of a hurry to return the shirts mommy bought for him on father's day ;).) unfortunately at lunch you had a blowout, so mommy didn't get a good picture of you and daddy in that shirt, but here's you in the shirt before we left for lunch.
{{mommy LOVES the crazy hair in this one!}}

after lunch, shopping, a nap and dinner, we made it to your favorite part of the day...
STORYTIME!! :)
all in all, it was a good weekend, at least by mommy's standards. i hope daddy feels the same!

newborn photo session

when you were just 10 days old, aunt chenelle came over and took these pictures of you! these were some of mommy and daddy's favorites! thanks aunt chenelle and sweet peace photography!

2 months

carter brian,

your daddy and mommy can't believe that you're two months old already! you're growing and changing before our eyes everyday! in fact, just YESTERDAY you seemed to have really discovered that you have a voice and can control it. it's as if your coos have turned into words that we just don't understand! at times, you just talk and talk and talk, or at least you did yesterday. is that a sign of what's to come? are you gonna be like your uncle don? ;)
speaking of changes, your hair seems to be changing from a very dark brown to a light brown that sometimes looks red in the sun. maybe you're gonna be like your daddy was as a baby and have dark brown hair that changes to strawberry blonde and eventually blonde hair. oh mommy does hope so! that keeps her hope alive that you'll also get your daddy's blue eyes, even if the punnett square says it's unlikely!
{{i love how this look says--'mom, put the freakin' camera down already and let me enjoy my light show.' oh. and just LOOK at that HAIR!}}

you've been smiling for a few weeks now, but it's still rather unpredictable so mommy hasn't gotten a great photo of it yet. i think part of the problem is that you don't like it when the red light comes on before the camera takes the picture, so even if you are smiling, you stop when you see the red light. here's two of the best ones mommy's taken so far.and now, onto the MOST IMPORTANT recent development...YOU'RE SLEEPING THROUGH THE NIGHT! consistently. since about six weeks. it's really quite fabulous. you're SUCH a GOOD baby--daddy and mommy feel so lucky to have you in our lives--especially when we get at least 7 hours of sleep at night! :) the last two nights you've slept for NINE AND A HALF HOURS! woo hoo! maybe it was the bath we gave you before bed. mommy's gonna have to test that theory out soon!{{our little (blue) shrek}}

not only are you sleeping through the night, but you're sleeping through the night IN YOUR OWN ROOM! every night we wrap you in the swaddleme and put you down in your crib around 11pm, but where we find you in your crib each morning is a surprise. today, you were at the very bottom of the crib. yesterday morning, you'd managed to shimmy your way down a foot or two and turn yourself 45 degrees to the left.

daddy thinks you're trying to get away from your fan we have blowing on you at night and that's why you cover so much ground in those seven to nine point five hours. if only the video monitor had a record button, then we could see you in action!

in the last two weeks, daddy and mommy introduced you to a pacifier. mommy wasn't so sure about this at first, but when you started crying like you were hungry 45 minutes after a full feeding, she KNEW you couldn't possibly be hungry, so we thought we should try a binky. it was pretty funny at first, mommy tried to get you to take the pacifier, but it was no use, you just kept letting it fall right out of your mouth. but aunt chenelle gave it to you with NO PROBLEMS. TWICE. then you took it from aunt nikki. and when daddy got home from his business trip, you took it from him. i think you just didn't want to take it from mommy because you knew that mommy has the real deal. you've since come around and will take the binky from mommy too. here you are with your binky. it makes mommy laugh because it takes up so much of your face!
you also seem to really like having your fist in your mouth (if the binky isn't around). daddy tries to block you from doing it, but if it isn't working, we give you your binky because we know it's just a matter of time before you discover that you have fingers and/or a thumb connected to that fist and (we've heard) that that will be a much harder habit to break than the binky.

since you're sleeping through the night so beautifully, you're down to 6 or 7 feedings a day. mommy will double check with the pediatrician in a two weeks to make sure that that is okay, but you seem fine with it, as long as you get to play with your hair and scratch your head while you're visiting o'boobigans.

over memorial day weekend, you had two firsts! on friday night you had your first overnight stay at grandma and grandpa zoodsma's as we made our way to daytona beach for your first vacation with grandma and grandpa heisserer! the suv was STUFFED TO CAPACITY! this is how much stuff we needed for the ONE NIGHT in orlando and this way only a fraction of the stuff that was still in the car for daytona!
you had a great time with grandma and grandpa zoodsma, your great aunt karen, and your great uncle dennis. oh, and friday too! friday really liked having you around!

on saturday afternoon, we headed over to daytona beach. we got upgraded to an oceanfront room on the first floor, which meant we had our own patio. it was SO NICE to be able to open the sliding glass door, bring out your kickin' coaster or car seat and set you in it while mommy read her book and daddy had a rum and coke...ALL IN THE SHADE!
i make it sound like we actually spent a lot of time out there. i think the scene i just described lasted all of about 7 minutes. this is what you thought of it all...
we3 had a great time visiting with grandma and grandpa heisserer, uncle don and his lady lucia, and jason, stacy, brooke and jordan over the long weekend! it might've been a tad early to try a vacation but everyone enjoyed spending time with you and mommy and daddy enjoyed getting out of town!
daddy and mommy can't wait until YOU are ready for a vacation, where you'll do more than just sleep! we're hoping maybe for new year's this year we can go somewhere tropical, if you enjoy the water that is. you'll be nine months old then--sitting up, eating things other than breastmilk... wow it'll be here before we know it!

these days you're also really loving:

baths
{{yes, this is a "lovin' it" face. mommy knows so because you were smiling point five seconds before mommy took this picture. i swear it's the red light!}}

naps in the swing in daddy's office

storytime

sleeping in one of the big boys beds
{{napping in the guest bed with a binky in your ear while mommy rides the exercise bike}}

and watching soccer with daddy on the big screen (although it's only happened once).

mommy and daddy love you very much, sweet boy!

oh, and one last thing...carter asked mommy to say a special hello to his great great aunt norma up in ohio! he heard that you check his blog everyday and he hopes that you enjoy all of these pictures of him! he's been begging mommy to make updates more often for everyone to see and mommy will try! :)
